About Me

Welcome

Hello and a very warm welcome to you. My name is Carl Conradi (he/him), and I'm a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC, #11244101) based in Calgary, Canada. I offer one-on-one in-person and online counselling services to adults and adolescents residing in the Calgary Metropolitan Area, across Alberta and Western Canada, and abroad. At present, I do not accept clients from Canadian provinces east of Manitoba, or from the United States of America.

Born in Calgary and raised in Edmonton, I obtained my MSc in Psychological Counselling from Regent's University London, a training institute in the United Kingdom that specialises in existential therapy. Prior to this, I also earned an MSc in Psychology from BPP University, and an MSc in War & Psychiatry from King's College London (also in the UK).

I've provided counselling to the general adult and adolescent public via private practice, private clinics, and through the UK's National Health Service (NHS). Outside of the office, I've served as a clinical liaison for Recoil Alberta (a non-profit that facilitates peer support groups for armed forces veterans and first responders), and as a part-time researcher at the Canadian Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH).

Before "re-hatting" as a counsellor, I spent a decade working in the fields of international development and conflict management. I served at the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in Yemen during the 2012 Arab Spring, at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the Netherlands, and at a variety of non-governmental organisations in Somalia, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and Lebanon. I also spent three years working at the Dallaire Institute for Children, Peace, and Security, where I imparted strategic and tactical training to armed forces members who risked encountering child combatants during deployment.

In addition to my counselling qualifications, I obtained an MBA from INSEAD (France/Singapore) in 2016. Thereafter, I spent one year providing communications expertise to a Berlin-based micro venture capital firm.

These diverse experiences have instilled within me a profound appreciation for the broad spectrum of challenges and opportunities that a person might face during the course of their life. Indeed, as a counsellor, I seek to respect and honour the person that you are, no matter how similar or dissimilar our respective paths have been. I embrace working with individuals of any adult age, gender, sexual orientation, relationship preference, ethnicity, religion, ability, and academic or professional background.

In the main, I work with clients who present with ageing concerns, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), problematic anger, anxiety, behavioural addiction, depression, LGBTQIA2S discrimination or identity issues, loneliness, men's issues, obsessive-compulsiveness (OCD), phobia, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), relationship difficulties, work-related stress, and other psychological challenges. At the same time, I'm deeply passionate about working with individuals who have experienced "moral injury" (whether military or civilian), immigrant or expatriate challenges, sudden life transformation and existential crisis, consensual non-monogamy, and/or corporate/entrepreneurial workplace anxiety.

More recently, I've completed a seven-month Certificate Programme in Traumatic Stress Studies offered by Bessel van den Kolk's Trauma Research Foundation; Levels I and II of the Gottman Method for Couples Therapy; as well as the advanced Gottman training in "Treating Affairs and Trauma." However, please note that I do not currently accept couples or poly partners for relationship counselling.

As a mental health practitioner, I'm a firm believer in the importance of work-life balance, and outside of the office, I have a number of deeply cherished hobbies. These include travelling, camping, weight-lifting, skiing, karate, yoga, scuba diving, cooking, reading, origami, learning languages, and playing video games.

If you have another other questions regarding my background, qualifications, or approach to counselling - of it you would like to book a free 30-minute introductory session - please navigate to the Contact page.
